Stock Photo - Mar. 02, 2012 - A rare sight: A wild goat pictured here is grazing today (Oct 27 1970) in a field at Longtown, Cumberland. It is minus one of its massive horns - more than a foot long. The missing horn is thought to be the sequel to a mating season fight with another male goat in the herd which roams several miles away on some of the most isolated hills in Britain - the Bewcastle Fells, near the Scottish- English border. The goats are seldom seen except when periods od severe weather drives them into the valleys. They are one of the few British herds of wild goats and have roamed the fells for centuries. Their origin is shrouded is in mystery. The RSPCA plan to capture the goat and return it to the hills. - it is thought the animal might attack children if molested.
