Stock Photo - Mar. 03, 1956 - Painting by Lucas Cranach Discovered In Hungary. According to recent Hungarian Press Reports - Gyorgy Kakay-Szabo, Chief restorer of the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts, has discovered in a picture which was thought to be worthless work - a painting of high value of Lucas Cranach in 1514-15.. The painting of wood plate was damaged at the end of the 16th century - was partly repainted and used as an altar piece. Part of the bottom of the picture was discoloured and repainted - thus the author and true value of the picture remained hidden. The picture was X-rayed and some of the figures under the re-painted parts became visible. when some of the paint was removed the consignors of the original picture and their family coat of arms was revealed.
