Stock Photo - May 05, 1964 - 'Steptoe and son' sold to America: Ray Galton and Alan Simpson, creators of the BBC's popular television 'rag and bone' men, have sold the program to and American television network for at least 100,000, and if the Americans take up an option to run the show for five years, it could bring the pair in 500,000. The British pair Wilfred Bram bell and Harry H. Corbett are not included in the deal, as the Americans are engaging two famous actors of their own to play the parts, and the scripts of Galton and Simpson are to be altered to suit suit America, ' rag and bone men' will become 'Junk men', and 'birds' (girls) will become 'broads'.
