Stock Photo - May 05, 1972 - Demonstration of new Helicopter: There was a demonstration in London today of the new 5 seat civil Gazelle executive and cargo helicopter a new Angle French aircraft manufactured jointly by Westland in England and Aerospatiale in France. Gazelle is a high performance aircraft, It holds the light helicopter speed record of 195 mph (312 km/hr) over a 15 to 25 km straight course. A further record was obtained by completing 100 km ----- circuit at 185 mph (296 km/hr). The aircraft has outstanding load carrying ability in relation to its 3750 lb (1700 kg) all up weight. Using an external sling 1320 (600 kg) can be carried for a range in entents of 60 nm (111 km). Internally a cargo of 1100 lb (500 kg) can be transported 170 m- Passenger accomodation in the spacious cabin is to limcuzine standards. Cruising at 140 kts (260 km/hr) four passengers and their luggage can be carried over 300 nm (560 km) in under 2 1/2 hours. A specially developed rotor suspension sytem is used in Gazelle to achieve an exceptionally low cabin noise and vibration level. Conversion of the passenger cabin to carry freight is virtually instantaneous as the rear passenger seats fold to leave a large uncluttered floor.
