His cars are a red Alfa Romeo which nearly brought him victory in the Madeira round the island race in June; a 140 m.p.h Lotus Elite which he hoped to race in Britain - and a 48 h.p. Ford Galaxy Sunliner - which is 19ft. long and 7 ft. wide and two others. He went for his driving test at Southport in the huge Ford car and was failed on three points - one of which was not making proper use of the steering gear - and challenges the examiner to operate it as well as he did. He claims that one is not tested on driving ability in this country but on merely knowing the Highway code.
