Stock Photo - Nov. 11, 1967 - Foot and Mouth Epidemic: During the last few weeks, the spread of foot and mouth disease has increased alarmingly and another 75 outbreaks were reported yesterday, bringing the total to 1,129 with 182,989 animals slaughtered, but no new counties have been affected. Keep out warnings can be seen at farm entrances in many parts of Britain for ramblers and general public to keep out of fields and farms. Unfortunately some people tend to ignore the notices and cross fields to take short cuts, etc, thus increasing the risk of foot and mouth disease. Photo shows Stockmen Jack Farrow, on a beef steer farm in South Weald, Essex an area not yet affected sits on the farm gate today, to guard against trespassers and for any people who ignore notices to keep out he carries a 12-bore shotgun to persuade them he means business.
