Royal Academy Gallery: A show of some 500 paintings and drawings by Sir Frank Brangwyn, R.A., is being held at the Diploma Gallery of the Royal Academy of Art - London. This is the first time the Academy has ever held a one-man show for a living painter. Sir Frank is 85 and has not been outside the garden on his Sussex home for 20 years. Sir Frank Brangwyn was born in Bruges, of Welsh parents on 12th May 1857. He first exhibition at the Royal Academy in 1885, was elected an Associate in 1904, an Academioian in 1919. It has been difficult for an exhibition of his works to be arranged for the greater part of his life has been spent in paintings murals-which cannot be moved-and are to be seen on many parts of the world-- Also, many his finest paintings are abroad in pyblic collections, in Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy, United States and Commonwealth. In Bruges there is a permanent Museum of about 400 of his works; At orange a collection of about 300 - and a similar project for Tokyo was frustrated through the destruction by fire of about 90 pictures acquired by Mr. Matsukata.
