The story behind the letter:- Paal -Eva Bartok's second husband - brought Spanish film star Maria Rosa Salgado from Madrid to teach her English and make her a Hollywood where she impressed M.G.M. with a film test. Work on your Englush for six months they said and we'll give you a seven-year contract. She hated Hollywood and was lonely without her bullfighting boy-friend Pepe Dominguin. During the six months Dominguin flew to Mexico for some fighting, met Maria Roaa again, upon which she was lonelier still. 'Pep', she told Paal, 'Says that if her ever catches up with you he will skin you like a pig'. The second film test was successful, and the 7-year contract was Rosa's for the asking. But by now she was so homesick that Paal, conscience - Striken asked her: 'What would your do if I Freed you from your contract?'. Said Maria Rosa: 'Marry Pope, the man I Love'. Though her training ha coast him -2,000 by this time, Paal Freed her. And that was the end of her film career. Anyway, comments Paal, that -2000 was well spent- it brought the girl happiness'.
