Stock Photo - Oct. 14, 1960 - An exclusive engineering feature of the 1961 Thunderbird is the optional steering wheel and column that with fingertip effort swings ten inches to the side to make it easier for the driver to get in and out. The steering column can be moved only when the automatic transmission is in 'Park,' and the car cannot be moved until the steering column is in the normal position. With the steering wheel in the driving position, the transmission can be shifted to any selection, which automatically locks the wheel in place. This is just one of the new comfort and convenience features of the 1961 Thunderbird, which carries a new-car warranty of 12,000 miles or one full year. The new Thunderbird will go on sale in November. (Credit Image: © Keystone Press Agency/Keystone USA via ZUMAPRESS.com)
