Stock Photo - On 6 January 1897 the Royal Indian Marine troopship RIMS Warren Hastings left Cape Town (South Africa) bound for Mauritius. On the 14 January 1897, eight miles off course and traveling at a speed of 12.5 knots, in pitch dark, pouring rain and thick fog, ran straight into the rocks on the coastline of Réunion, (Indian Ocean). Carrying 993 passengers, only resulted in two deaths.
