Edith Cavell was a British nurse arrested by the Germans in August 1915 on charges of helping 200 Allied soldiers escape to the Netherlands. She was executed on October 12th 1915. The memorial, which included a statue of Cavell by sculptor George Frampton, was unveiled by Queen Alexandra on 17 March 1920.
