Stock Photo - Pair of Azure damselflies or coenagrion puella are mating on a pond rush. The male damselfly hooks onto the back of neck of the female below, making it look like Chinese acrobatics show. The female will coil her tail up to latch onto his abdoment, making a wheel. During this stage, they are easily disturbed and will separate, but once the wheel is formed, they may be joined together for an hour or longer and fly from one placce to another to evade predators or disruptive photographers. The female has greenish thorax with heavy dark markings n her tail. Most of the male is visible, but the thorax and head is hidden behind a supporting leaf. Both are mature adults.
