Stock Photo - Sep. 09, 1956 - The Tragedy Of A Family: After Ten Years Of Peace The Lochovkis Are Still 'D-Ps' And Are Without Hop For Future: Typical of many families still living on West German Refugee Camps - new living on the charity of the German authorities since URO (United Nations Refugee Organization) handed over - are the Lochovskis. Zenana was a forced labourer on a German farm having been sent there from Russia. Czeslaw, her husband, was a Polish male nurse who suffered similar fate. A few days after 'liberation' they married, and now there are two children. But neither can return home either of their native lands. Integration with the Germans is difficult and not popular with either side. An the last hope - emigration - is impossible because Czeslaw has TB as a result of his maltreatment, and no country is prepared to take in an immigrant with TB. And so this pathetic family continues to exist on a camp, making a pittance by working in the fields, and gowing their own vegetables and keeping hens. It is for such as the Lochovskis that the United Nations Association is launching a new appeal this autumn, to carry on its work of trying again to find the best solution for each individual case. Photo Shows: Pictured with a guinea pig, is 6-year old Zenon Lochovski, whose father has TB and has a terrible problem before him.
