Stock Photo - Sep. 09, 1966 - 30,000 ton German liner Hanseatic in five alarm fire at New York Hudson River Pier: Leaking diesel fuel caused fire injuring 7 firemen and causing great damage to vessel owned by Atlantik Line & Co. of Hamburg. It took 300 firemen and 50 apparatus to get control after 7 hours. Three city fire boats, several police helicopters and two Coast Guard vessels came to help but were not used. All the action was below deck. Foam was used extensively rather than water to avoid capsizing of the boat. There were only few passengers on board, were quickly evacuated, none injured. 400 passengers had to change travel plans. (Credit Image: © Keystone Press Agency/Keystone USA via ZUMAPRESS.com)
