Stock Photo - Sep. 09, 1966 - Submarine Sinks in the North Sea A German submarine was reported today to have sunk in the North Sea yesterday evening. The report came from a British trawler which said he had picked up a survivor. The trawler, St. Martin, from Lowestoft also reported four more men in the water. The trawler identified the submarine by the NATO pennant number S170. This is the number of the Hamburg built West German submarine Hai (Shark). The Shark carried a crew of 15. She was built in 1945 and sunk in the Baltic at the end of the Second World War. She was raised in 1956 and recommissioned on October 1, 1957, after being rebuilt at Kiel.
