At the same time they are ever at the ready, prepared for any eventuality. A month ago is someone had seen a soldier without his helmet standing outside in the sun gazing across the Canal with his binoculars, he would have thought he was dreaming. Now this is part of the way of life. Photo shows in the quiet of the ceasefire the radio plays and this flackjacketed soldier eats oranges and smokes as though on his port back home.
