A rebel radio broadcasting from Baghdad claims that the Iraq government has been overthrown and President Kassem assassinated. The rebels, who claim to be supporters of President Nassar, said that a brigade of troops which took Baghdad was controlled by them. General Kossem has been in power in Iraq since 1952 when he led the revolution which overthrew the Monarchy, and saw the deaths of King Feisal, his uncle Prince Abdul Illah and the Prime Minister, Nuri As-said.
