Stock Photo - Slate quarrying in Wales began during roman times. Slate is used as a building material,for roof tiles,but also for flooring,work tops and headstones. The Slate industry declined at the begining of the 20th century. Dinorwig Slate Quarry now houses a hydroelectric power station.
