Received the Military Cross 'for attempting to save the life of a brother-officer and for general efficiency.' On 16 August 1916, he organized and led an attack on Guillemont which failed. He was wounded in the knee but continued to advance, when, at the end of the action, he was hit in the head by a sniper and instantaneously killed.
