From 17th October several measurement test drives will be conducted on the newly build ICE line between Erfurt and the Franconian Ebensfeld. This will be the first time the tracks will be driven on in high-speed. The 107 kilometre connection Erfurt - Ebensfeld is part of the high-speed line between Berlin and Munich. The whole line with a train path through the Thuringian forest is planned on being put into service until the end of 2017, according to Deutsche Bahn.
