Erected between the 11th and 14th centuries, this church preserves the west porch in impeccable Romanesque design, giving way to a building brimming with the style. The church stands where San Vicente and his sisters Sabina and Cristeta are believed to have been martyred in AD 303. A crypt in the basilica is dedicated to the Virgen de la Soterraña ('The Subterranean Virgin'). Avila was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1985.
