Damaged by British pocket submarines on September 22, 1943 in the Altenfjord, the ""Tirpitz"" sank on November 12, 1944, in the Tromsö fjord by 5.5-ton bombs dropped by Avro Lancaster bombers of the R.A.F. Bomber Command.
