The painter represents Ulysses rowing a small boat sailing on a sea-carpet inside a room with bourgeois furniture, the room looks like a small museum of the artist: wardrobe, chair and armchair are a quotation from Furniture in the Valley series of the 1920s, the painting on the left presenting one of the artist’s famous Italian Piazza paintings of the initial metaphysical period, the ajar door and the archaeological landscape outside the window indicate time and space beyond the present.
