Stock Photo - Unit 1 of nuclear power plant Dukovany should be restarted at the end of January and unit 2 by mid-February, power utility CEZ's production division head Ladislav Stepanek said at a press conference today, on Friday, January 8, 2016. CEZ has estimated losses caused by unplanned shutdowns at Dukovany at billions of crowns. Problems at Dukovany started at the beginning of autumn last year, when an inspection revealed that X-ray pictures of welds were of poor quality. Owing to this, unit 2 was taken offline on the night to September 18 and unit 3 a day later. Unit 1, which was shut down in line with schedule on August 28, was originally scheduled to be restarted at the end of October but has remained offline due to the weld checks as well. Unit 3 was the only one to resume power generation before the end of last year. It was reconnected to the grid since December 28. Unit 4 was the only unit that supplied electricity throughout the entire autumn. State Nuclear Safety Authority (SUJB) head Dana Drabova, said today Dukovany's current problems have two causes. One of them lies in the plant's excellent results over the past 30 years, which have led to certain self-satisfaction and a fall of attention to details, such as a thorough supervision over suppliers, she said."" The second one is the economic pressure on so-called effectivity,"" Drabova said. Pictured is Industry and Trade Minister Jan Mladek. (CTK Photo/Lubos Pavlicek)
