Cuirassiers Regiment The B1 bis Tank 534 named ‘Bugeaud’ was used during the Second World War by the 28th BCC (Bataillon de Chars de Combat) of the 3rd Cuirassiers Regiment of the French Army. The B1 bis was a variant of the French B1 Tank and was one of the best tanks available during the early stages of World War II. It saw action on the Western Front and in North Africa before being replaced by newer models. Bugeaud was notably involved in the Battle of Abbeville in 1940. The Bugeaud tank was named after Marshall Thomas-Robert Bugeaud, the French general who fought in the Napoleonic Wars and the Franco-Prussian War. The tank was known for its reliability and was highly regarded by the French soldiers who crewed it for its ability to carry a heavy suspension system despite its design flaws. Bugeaud is seen as a symbol of solidarity and resistance among the French people. The tank is now preserved in the Musée des Blindés in Saumur, France, where it is seen as a reminder to visitors of the courage and sacrifice of the French people during World War II
