The yellow-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier) is a seed-eating passerine bird found throughout most of tropical Asia. It belongs to the bulbul family, Pycnonotidae. This species is a resident breeder in tropical Asia. It is a drab, streaky bird with dark brownish upper parts and pale yellow under parts. A dark streak is running through the eye and sides of the breast, and a faint yellow collar. A yellow patch on the wings and sides of the tail is yellow. The vent is yellow, as both sexes have yellow-brown-tinged underparts. The adult bird measures 18–19cm in length. The diet consists of small berries, nectar, flowers, and insects. In Sarawak, this species is common in both lowland and hill habitats from sea level to 1500m. The yellow-vented bulbul is usually seen in small to medium-sized flocks and found near areas where green vegetation is available, usually preferring jungle edges, secondary growth, and roadside gardens. Breeding occurs from April to August.
